General Healthy Living

To live healthily is not just about eating and drinking the right amount - it is all about taking care of your appearance generally!!
Did you know that your skin is your largest organ? It takes up about 16% of your body weight and its surface area is approximately 2 metres square!!
It varies in thickness depending on where it is - from 0.5mm on your eyelids to 4mm on the palms of your hands and soles of your feet!!
It consists of 2 layers - the Dermis (the inner layer) and the Epidermis (outer layer)!!
It holds everything in and keeps most things out!!
It acts as a natural barrier and protects against physical damage, harmful sunrays and bacterial invasion!!
It absorbs oxygen, eliminates waste and secretes protective lubricants!!
There are a few things that affect the condition of our skin. These are:
  • Age
  • Weather
  • Lack of sleep
  • Lack of exercise
  • Diet
  • Smoking
  • Central Heating
  • Harsh soaps and detergents
  • Alcohol
  • Pollution

All of these things dehydrate our skin!! We need to balance our lives by having:

  • A Healthy Lifestyle
  • A daily skincare regime (even men!!!)
  • Specialist skincare
  • Sun Protection (even in the winter - especially in the snow)

Some ideas to improve our lifestyle:

  • Healthy diet : eat at least 5 portions of fruit and vegetables a day
  • Drink 2 litres of water a day
  • Exercise
  • Sufficient sleep
  • Reduce (or quit) smoking and alcohol
  • Manage stress/ Learn to relax!!
